SHANGHAI — Jiahui International Cancer Center has appointed Professor Hao Siguo (郝思国) as Director of Hematology. One of China's foremost authorities on cellular immunotherapy and stem cell transplantation, Professor Hao previously served as Director of Hematology and founding discipline leader at Xinhua Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, where he also supervised doctoral and postdoctoral researchers.

With nearly four decades of clinical and translational research in hematology, Professor Hao will lead the hematology program at Jiahui, offering patients in China and abroad access to nationally leading, internationally benchmarked care for both malignant and non-malignant blood diseases.

Clinical Focus Across the Full Spectrum of Hematology

Professor Hao's practice spans the full breadth of modern hematology, with particular depth in treating complex and refractory disease. His areas of focus include:

• Acute and chronic leukemia
• Malignant lymphoma (Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin)
• Multiple myeloma
• Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN)
• Aplastic anemia and other forms of marrow failure
• Anemia and thrombocytopenia of diverse causes
• Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), including autologous, HLA-matched related and unrelated donor, haploidentical, and cord blood transplantation

He was among the earliest specialists in China to perform adult double-unit cord blood transplantation for hematological malignancies — a procedure that has since brought long-term survival and potential cure to many patients with high-risk leukemia in Shanghai and beyond.

A Pioneer of CAR-T Therapy in China

As principal investigator of multiple clinical studies, Professor Hao has led investigator-initiated trials (IIT) of CAR-T cell therapy for relapsed or refractory lymphoma and multiple myeloma — among the first such programs in China. His team's BCMA-targeted CAR-T work for relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma has been presented orally at leading international forums including the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting and the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) meetings, and published in Haematologica in 2023.

Each year, Professor Hao and his unit perform more than 40 hematopoietic stem cell transplants — a volume that places his team among the most active hematology programs in Shanghai — while continuing to refine protocols for patients with limited donor options.

Research, Publications, and National Funding

Professor Hao has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, including over 50 in SCI-indexed international journals. He has served as principal investigator on:

• Four National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) general projects
